From the Board of Directors of Glen Burnie Park Swim Club:
The Glen Burnie Park Swim Club was established in 1963 as a non-profit organization dedicated to providing members an enjoyable, family oriented place to swim during the summer. In addition to hosting the GBP Dolphins Swim Team, the Swim Club offers its facilities for private rental to members and non-members alike. Of the approximately 35+ after-hours rentals during the summer, the vast majority are for parties less than 100 people and are mainly for family celebrations and other small gatherings.
We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred Friday evening in the parking lot adjacent to the Glen Burnie Park Swim Club. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone that have been impacted by this incident. The Swim Club is cooperating with the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s ongoing investigation.
While other parties have not impacted the local neighborhood as this one, we recognize and understand the community's concerns. We were unaware that this event was being advertised on social media. The Swim Club would never have allowed it to take place had we known in advance. In consideration of neighborhood impacts and in accordance with Anne Arundel County noise ordinance, the party was terminated at 11pm. The Swim Club’s Board of Directors is currently evaluating rental policies and we look forward to having a meeting with the community in the near future. Any further questions should be directed to Anne Arundel County Police Department.
